Divine Farms

Yam and maize farm

                                            YAM

Yam is an important staple food crop in Ghana and is produced throughout the country. Ghana is the leading exporter of yam, despite the fact that it is the third-largest producer in the world, after Nigeria and Cote d'Ivoire.

Per capita consumption of yam increased by 12 percent between 1997 and 2007. Average daily consumption of yam is about 300 kcal per capita (FAO STAT, 2012), and it is the third most important source of energy in the Ghanaian diet, accounting for 20 percent of total caloric intake (FAO STAT, 2012).Yam contributes about 16 percent of the country's Agricultural Gross Domestic Product (GDP). In addition, 6.3 percent of Ghana's arable land is used for yam cultivation (Otto, 2005).
Divine Farms cultivates over 60 acres of yam annually and have plans of expanding to over 1000 acres within the next three years

                                                                                MAIZE

Maize farming in Ghana is taking a shift with more farmers willing to grow the crop for commercial purposes since the demand is guaranteed. The fact that yields are now guaranteed makes it possible for farmers to risk their cash and venture into commercial farming. The improved maize seeds make it possible for farmers to get up to 40 bags of maize from an acre which is a significant improvement from the 4 bags they used to get from traditional seeds.

Divine Farms have taken advantage of recent developments in maize production to improve on its quality and capacity as well. Currently, we farm over 300 acres of maize and we plan to increase it exponentially within the next 3 years
